Exactly. This is pretty stupid if you ask me. Firstly, I go to download firefox 3 this morning (UK) and I was going to mention it to others too. When I go to the mozilla site it still shows firefox 2. At lunchtime, still firefox 2. After googling, I discover it is only available at 6pm local time... so much for download 'day'. Now, just after 6pm, it appears mozilla's servers have crashed. Great advert for you rock-solid browser. The whole thing is a pretty big screw-up if you ask me.

Sun to Cut 5000 Jobs 214

codemachine writes "In one of Jonathan Schwartz's first acts as CEO, Sun Microsystems has announced that they are cutting up to 5,000 jobs over the next 6 months. The company plans to sell property it owns in Newark, Calif., and to exit leases at a site in Sunnyvale, Calif. Analysts will be pleased that Sun has finally taken steps to cut costs, but what will this mean for the future of the company?"

Spy Sweeper, the Next Netscape? 256

GenieGenieGenie writes "AP is running a story about Webroot's Spy Sweeper, specifically about the competition it's facing from Vista's bundled anti-spyware. Webroot's CEO David Moll maintains that 'The taking of a second-best product in this space [i.e. Vista's Defender, f.k.a. AntiSpyware] is akin to locking half the doors in your house,' but others seem to think that if Moll doesn't want his company to become a second Netscape, it would 'ultimately [...] need to offer more than just an anti-spyware package.' The interesting issue here is whether this need for broadening the offer would be the case also for other leading companies subject to similar 'bundled-with' competition."
