Comment Please don't take my job (Score 1) 81

I don't work for any of these companies and while they buy carve outs, the "pro" act will legislate people like me away. There is no way for a real contractor to meet the ABC test. The people dispatching you will "work in the business" by virtue of existing. Anyone that can't directly acquire customers is screwed. Just how can you approach a fortune 500 as a small fry and get a contract... that won't happen. You'd have to meet SLAs and all other requirements.

In essence they ban self employment and you have to go beg corporations for a full time job again.

I'm not a newbie but always had problems installing arch. To the point of having to either follow a guide or use something like endeavor OS. Back in the day slackware had a text installer and it wasn't a big deal. With arch you have to manually partition and format, which is fine, but then when it comes to installing packages there are all kinds of gotchas with what's available and what you actually need. End up with missing critical packages or stuff you don't want.

It's a rolling release too so stuff like network methods and configuration changes. I had arch not working with DHCP for some reason and couldn't go further even with static IPs... is it a HW or SW problem at that point, dunno because this is the first time I'm loading it on that machine.

I don't install every distro every day to get muscle memory on each one and 99% of the others have some self-explanatory process. Not arch, oh no. Then what about arch install? Well it wasn't on the downloadable media... so screw it, endeavor OS.

We are headed for an era of perpetually disappearing history and all that it brings.

I used the old leaf batteries for my solar setup. They are a good value, the only better ones come from chevy evs. Now I guess Nissan has come to the same conclusion and is taking their batteries back.

Have fingers crossed for those other recently recalled batteries hitting the market. This is the problem with renewables, they are hard to store.

Everything against us is now misinformation. Everyone against us; a nasty name. If what we want doesn't happen, we must censor. Our old tools of manufacturing consent are no longer viable. Just hope they come up with a way to rejuvenate batteries because as a li-ion user, they lose max charge fairly quick. Will a pack last 10-15 years of daily use?

But really, this needs to happen naturally and with no timeline given it just might. So say, 5-10 years? Dang, should have waited cutting all those fossil fuel jobs.

In this thread people are going to argue how free speech isn't free speech and there should be serious consequences for being in the minority or unpopular opinion.

Decades I lived through where people argued the opposite are to be erased like they never happened. The ACLU was always for hate speech laws and never fought court cases on the behalf or real naz1s. Anyone who says that today is just spreading "alt-right" propaganda....

Voat wasn't the most fun place and failed because the people running it realized it wasn't worth the effort for the tiny userbase. They still have money so they don't want donations. Goes to show that over the top racism doesn't make for a popular site. People will not take up truly unpopular things just by being exposed to them. This should take the wind out of censors' sails if they had any sense.

Unfortunately there is one way that let's unpopular ideas flourish... force. Using mass media and silencing dissent will make even crazy things like communism have a renaissance. If you look to history, that is how the horrors of humanity have been brought to life.

Tell me again how these are private businesses and if you don't like it you can make your own. Whoa, whoa! There is no censorship here, all they have to do is agree with us and our ideology and they will have "free speech". This is fine, everything is fine. Yea, China kinda is "state-owned capitalist" but really a more apt label is fascist. The USSR was actually communist, can't slice it any other way. The government planned the economy, food production, culture and personal life things such as housing/employment. It's goal was to spread communism and not make money. Basic needs were attempted to be met, school and healthcare was free, housing was assigned. You would be in trouble for losing your "job".

Oh.. you thought socialism or communism means you get to sit on your ass and play video games....
