EA To Charge For Game Demos 313

Kohato brings word of a new Electronic Arts marketing strategy that aims to start monetizing game demos. According to industry analyst Michael Patcher after an EA investor visit, the publisher will start selling "premium downloadable content" prior to a game's release for $10-$15 that is essentially a longer-than-usual demo. Patcher said, "I think that the plan is to release PDLC at $15 that has 3-4 hours of gameplay, so [it has] a very high perceived value, then [EA will] take the feedback from the community (press and players) to tweak the follow-on full game that will be released at a normal packaged price point." He also made reference to a comment from EA's CEO John Riccitiello that "the line between packaged product sales and digital revenues would soon begin to blur."

How Would You Design Your Dream Office? 376

An anonymous reader writes "My company is building a new office. As the local IT Guy, I've been asked to design my new office from the ground up. If you were given the opportunity to design your dream office, what features would you include? What things would you try to avoid? I get to determine absolutely everything. The catch? I have to share my office space with all the network equipment. Just 4 standard racks, and all your basic telephone and network wiring. Can anyone help me get started? I have no idea where to even begin."

Comment AP Economics Exam (Score 1) 247

The high school AP Economics exam (like all AP exams) has two sections: multiple choice and short answer. Inbetween the sections we were allowed a half an hour break so we could eat and relax a bit. During this time in my adolesence I carried around a deck of card with me wherever I went, so I decided that now would be as good of a time as any to start a blackjack table in the middle of the concourse area. It was quite a hit among everyone there, and even my economics teacher got in on the fun. Nothing is quite as entertaining as a table of six high school kids getting revenge on their AP Economics teacher for making them take that stupid exam by kicking his ass in blackjack. Later on, during the short answer portion of the test, I had no clue regarding two of the questions, so I drew out a tic-tac-toe board and put an X in the middle and said "Mail me back with your move." and wrote my address next to it. Sadly, I never got a response. That would have been awesome.
