I think the majority of the stupid patents from the big companies are just to protect them from the patent trolls in the future

"Cool" or "surprises me" may be not the best metric for measuring technology progress. Maybe if you cut off Internet, TV and other sources of information for 5 years you would be as much surprised as your grandmother

flynn writes "Ireland's oldest and largest ISP will be blocking access to The Pirate Bay from September 1st, while other ISPs have rejected the request to block TPB. From the Irish Times: 'Under an out-of-court agreement with EMI Records, Sony Music, Universal Music and Warners in January, Eircom agreed to cut off customers found to be repeatedly downloading music illegally. The deal also required Eircom to cut off access to Pirate Bay if requested. Yesterday, cable TV operator UPC, which has more than 120,000 broadband subscribers, announced it would not comply with a request to block access to Pirate Bay.'"

I have two paid dictionary apps on my iPod - American Heritage Dictionary and Longman's Dictionary of Contemporary English. Both of them contain every dirty word I'm aware of.

So, the Chinese government has just stated to the world that they are not confident that their people are capable of discerning the difference between things that are real, and things that are not real?

It's not Real vs Fake. It is about cultural values. All those games and movies tell you that the best thing in a world is to make a quick buck and spend it on chicks, alcohol and cool car. And this has bad influence on youngsters
