I agree 100%. He went beyond just pissing off and embarrassing people. I was surprised at his relatively light sentence, and then it "came out" that he wants to live as a woman and be referred to as Chelsea. I don't buy this load of shit either.

Agreed on "The End of Faith". After I read it on my kindle I had to have the hard cover. I think his book "Free Will" did something to me...I'm still not sure what though! I have a hard time maintaining a grasp on that subject, but I do find it intriguing and possibly disturbing...I think...

Are we really that uptight these days? "just no reason" to have their email addresses? ...Map that logic onto every other medium of inter-human communication and there's suddenly no longer a "reason" to even know their names if they're underage. I can imagine legitimate "reasons" he'd have those email addresses. Wish we could be sensible about these things. Seems to me that more and more, we (as a species) continuously endeavor to be mindful of trespassing that which we never intended to violate in the first place, which at times is absolutely prudent, but damn, must we let the pervs and sickos completely thwart every element of our co-existence? Guy made a (very unfortunate and embarrassing) mistake; it's a good idea to know FOR SURE to whom you're speaking in any situation in this day and age.

I'm no fan of the Catholic church, but your hatred wrongs them, and the rest of all religions along with them. Religion has been, historically, one of the most philosophic endeavors civilizations would support. Intellectually driven people have been, as often as not, employed by 'the church.'

I want so badly to find something in this to stomp on, but I can't as it's pretty well worded. I suppose where I become uneasy is when I think about the fervency so many people seem to have when it comes to the defense of their respective religious beliefs. This topic comes up more and more on /. these days.

A family friend was lost then. I'm with you nip - and the Boy Scouts.

I think that's an excellent point. When Limewire first came out, we were like "hell, I already paid for this years ago in cassette form so I already own it anyway, and since the cassette didn't hold up blah, blah...". While I still think that argument has merit, I can understand how the RIAA and the like are scrambling and grasping at whatever straw they can to profit in the market.

I heard that story on NPR back in March; weird! I worked at a candy factory in Okla. City in the late 80's where I accidentally spilled an entire 55 gallon drum of molasses down an elevator shaft. A wheel on the flat four-wheeled dolly on which the barrel (a few hundred pounds) was riding hit a hole in the concrete floor, and the thing tipped over. With the barrel resting on it's side at the elevator threshold (the "door" being more of a wooden slat gate because this was an old factory warehouse, and the car was some floors above at the time), the top came off. The contents were inside a plastic liner bag which crept out of the barrel like a blob and ruptured as I yelled in vain for help. Since accidents like that always seem to happen in slow motion.....that took for eeeeeever!
