In your example they would need 34 thousand square kilometers to feed themselves (out of the 41 thousand square kilometers they have). Yet they are one of the largest food exporters on the planet. How can this be when they would need 83% of their surface area to sustain themselves? This is obviously false.. Maybe if China moved to a system where everybody grew their own stuff in their own backyard that would be true, but it doesnt work like that.
