This is not always the case, though. I'm not saying that this is impossible, far from it. But I do want to point out that my girl friend (I'm not your average /. reader, ex. I don't know HTML,C, or Python...[lol]) was sexually abused from the age of 6 to 14 and the only reason I know is because she divulged this to me. And I can usually tell when anyone has come up rough, as the hosts of Loveline seem gifted in the same area. Some people seem to be more resilient to such horrors than others. But I did meet her AFTER she had been treated for PTSD at a local rape crisis center so she may be representative sample of a different type of abuse victim.

Precisely. I don't know anyone that goes to school for any reasons other than "because my mom makes me" and "so I can make lots of money". This experiment makes perfect sense. People tend to work harder for concrete, external rewards rather than abstract, internal rewards.
