A problem is that latin (and the writing of latin) changed over time, e. g. there was a shift from v to u around the 14th century. But of course there ist no hard cut but a gradual transition.

Using RSA with traditional key length (2048 Bit) results in signature size of 256 Byte (+ additional encoding). After 2025 larger key length (> 3000 Bit) are required: https://www.sogis.eu/documents... This results in signture sizes of typically 384 bytes. => not that different from falcon.
