Good comment. We should remember that the cumulative probability of the long tail of "unlikely" outcomes often outweighs the probability of the few most "likely" outcomes. In other words, the outcome will most likely be bad.
OK, so you come on over to my kitchen and use your new rules of thumb to rewrite all my much-beloved family recipes. I don't have a.4 cc spoon, so make sure you adjust all the measurements and test all the recipes so that the family won't barf and the amounts can be easily measured.
