Very insightful post. I was obviously expecting far too much, I have/had a belif that those who are technical intelligent are able to think through facts with a reason and clarity that supersedes emotional arguments and therefore would make Engineers etc. less susceptible to them. I need to stop being surprised by the childlessness. I would like /. to be something that it is not, I have my own businesses now and don't work with other engineers daily however the culture and conversation I enjoyed is not really to be found here. Perhaps I should delete /. from my life and just spend a bit more time catching up with my former colleges.

Thank you for your post it made me think through why I do or don't want to read /.

It would be nice if they did something about it. Seems like DoD wants to spread government money to their friends.

If DOGE stops that it would be good, of course they may really be changing due to the current supplier is just collecting a pay check and have no intention of finishing instead just keep getting paid.

I do agree with that in general however what do you suggest when people start doxing police offices and harassing them for doing their job? Should then the police offices be offered anonymity or should we let criminals go free? I vote for anonymity and internal accountability, at some point the right the public has to know the police ID is overruled by the officers own need for safety for them and their family.

You don't need to read them their rights before putting them into a van or transport. This is nothing to do with skin color, and in this case I think they are permitted to arrest people who are known to be illegal or they have probable cause that they are illegal. If they arrest based on skin color that is obviously wrong but you have made an assumption without proof of why anyone was arrested.

What is your suggestion anyway, to abandon the rule of law? Is it the law or the enforcement you do not like?

Well, no. There is a limited time of draw, they have to be charged before discharged, they are an environmental hazard to dispose of. Also there is a cycle cost for a battery so if you install a battery at our house (or in your phone) then you have a reduced capacity per charge/discharge cycle and if the battery is say 10000, and you have an estimated 2000 cycles then you are at $5 per cycle. So the $150 per year to be part of the program may be at the consumers cost depending on how many cycles the program adds.

Calling Bitcoin a ponzi scheme is not accurate but it shares this aspect, the popularity drives the value.

Note that with any asset there are ways to value it, some examples.
Value based on Price to Earnings (this is a yield value, where earnings represent the yield.) Bitcoin has zero earning or Yield.

Value based on utility. Such as Lithium has a utility in batteries for example. Bitcoin has some utility, do you use it? Primary utility is for ransom, or payments over international boarders with potential to make it difficult/impossible to get a refund and outside of standard business methods to trace funds. Note that Bitcoin is not unique and there are better crypto coins for this kind of utility (as I understand it.)

Value based on expected future value. This is where Bitcoin's real value is placed, the expected or hoped future value. What is that based on? Basically the greater fool idea since bitcoin is not really worth anything on it's own, however as long as you can find a greater fool to sell it to you are ok. Why would they buy it? Well the same reason that you did but for a greater price. Why would the price change? That is due to the popularity increasing. However there is more capital being freed up to put into bitcoin which is a source of more and more dollars. Here is the real question, when do you exit Bitcoin, what is your price target and why. If you can answer that then you have a bitcoin strategy rather than what is known as the dumb money.

Comment Re:Who pays the tariffs ? (Score -1) 108

You think this is about economic stimulation or something but this is about supply security. The US, Europe and the west is vulnerable to imports being slowed, stopped or blockaded. We already have the issue with rare earths, China says jump and the US (and the west) asks how high due to rare earths. They are needed for defense (and many many other things). Imagine being in the situation where the country that some consider the main adversary is the main and sometimes only source for some components needed for your military! That is the situation we are in. Russia survives sanctions due to a number of reasons but number one is they have a fairly integrated economy, not heavily reliant on imports.

In this case the question is not who pays the tariffs but what happens if you let the supply chain remain dependent on foreign nations? The world economy has become interlinked and China holds a big key, funny thing is the other country that would look to be best to replace them is Russia. They have everything, however we only buy their Uranium mostly. Chips themselves can be made anywhere. Intel has Fab plants all over the world including the US. Texas Instruments has some Fabs in the US. This is not a labor thing but if you want to build up the supply chain you have to some how incentives it or legislate it. Tariffs are a sort of incitive. Once the chip industry gets bigger all the parts, materials and components needed will be sourced locally if possible. The same as if it is made in China it is better to source what you need locally.

So much about nothing. You make lots of "points" of a sort of hearsay type of thing. Trump has high approval ratings and is doing great. Closing a loophole is just that, it creates a whole of of complaining by those who just want to complain. You are way off topic with all this mess. Let me say already 10x better than Biden and just getting better.

Your Reddit forum is probably all lies from Dem activists.

Those without access to Medicaid will be deported, if you want to pay for the worlds health care then donate to charity to do so, it is not the Governments job.

If any tourist is so dumb as to not come to the US thinking they were going to be deported to El Salvador then we don't want them here or they were planning on overstaying and were not a tourist anyway. El Salvador has prisons which are good, perhaps you want to try them out you get a job and free health care, a place to sleep and all your food.

Trump is awesome, even if I don't agree with some of the things he does he is fantastic overall.
