Comment The irony (Score 2) 11

It's ironic in a way (though people may call it poetic justice) that he was assassinated while discussing gun violence.

Back in April 2023, he had said on gun violence/control (full quote so I don't get accused of leaving context):

"I think it's worth it. I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights."

(I'll argue that God had nothing to do with this, but I digress)

Well, he certainly epitomized what he said. I'm sure his wife and kids are saddened by his loss (and give my condolences), but they should also be proud of his sacrifice for what he believe and stood for.

Well "obliviously" you're oblivious to the fact that this is pretty much exactly what it's going to take to solve things at this point.

You've got a government illegally deporting US citizens in clear violation of court orders. Exactly what else are you going keep letting this rogue government do before you actually start doing something about it? Wait on Democrats to magically solve all this? Or do you still believe the Superman movies were actually documentaries?

I understand the USA had a system that worked in the 60s but things do improve over 60 years.

Except that the USA never improves, as can be seen in the current political climate there.

50 years ago: Nixon commits a crime, and resigns to avoid impeachment (which would have gotten rid of him). Later pardoned by Ford because reasons.

If you mean Bitcoin, the particular fork the most people think is "real," then that's true... for the moment anyway. It's based entirely on that "most people think is 'real'" though.

Exactly - people treat it as 'real' because it happened to be the first (or as some say, 'the original shitcoin').... until something else becomes 'real' enough to gain traction against it.

Now the crypto bros will all try to claim that can't happen, but Bitcoin is living proof that an alternative form of money can gain traction - if it happened once, it can happen again. And there's nothing Bitcoin can do to prevent that from happening.

Comment Decline of SO because of AI?? (Score 1) 220

To me, I highly doubt AI is responsible for the decline of StackOverflow - more like its stupid rewards/reputation system that incentivizes karma hoaring by blasting answers in an effort to get more 'points', as if it's all a game.

Sure, AI has made it easier to create useless answers, but this decline was happening long before all this AI stuff started.
