Journal nizo's Journal: Disappointment and hope 4

Well, I ended up going to the book signing, and the author didn't show up. However, the illustrator did show up, and basically he and I chatted for about 45 minutes. The guy is awesome, and has some great work. He is just starting out so hopefully this will give his career a boost. His day job is construction, but just talking to him I picked up on the "must do art" vibe. I told him not to smash his fingers at work and that I really liked his art :-) If I can get him to get his work online I will post (I am thinking about offering to help in that regard). At the very least the guy needs to sell prints on deviantart or something. It is amazing (and sad) how many talented artists are out there, doing jobs they really don't want to do instead of art. But this guy has the right attitude, and I am sure he will do well. Talking to him made me feel better anyway.

Hopefully I will get a chance to meet the author at a later date, and nothing bad has happened to her :-|

  • It hurt her otherwise lucrative career as an automechanic;-)

The list of people doing what they have to do instead of what they want to do is a long one indeed. I am very much rooting for you to scratch that artistic itch. If nothing else with your daughter and (in)significant other gone, you should be able to get some pretty good art done. I found the pic BTW, so check your gmail account in a bit.

Well I don't live with the hexwife and oldest. I'll explain it all when I get your email :-)
  • I didn't see where you mentioned in your last journal on this just which author/artist and book you were going for? Care to share with the class? Sounds like good stuff. :)

The author is Jennifer Owings Dewey, and her latest book is:
The Shaman and the Water Serpent
      isbn: 978-0826342119

The artist who did most of the work (but ironically, not the cover of that book, which was done by the author) is Benton Yazzie. A very cool and personable guy, and his art is awesome :-) The author lives in Santa Fe and the artist lives here in Albuquerque. She tends to write books for the 9-12 age range, which is good because I am always trying to find stuff for the oldest to read (personally I
