  • This is very well done, IMHO.

Thanks! The weird thing is I didn't mean to draw it when I started drawing; I was just fiddling around drawing bricks and such, when I noticed my hand holding the drawing pad would make a great model for reaching over the top of a brick wall :-)
      • So when do we get to see the self portrait? That would be cool! I like your drawings and even though they are all good, they are getting better, too.

There is a fairly crappy looking one on my "scraps" page (here) [deviantart.com] over at DA. A few things about it:

          - it was drawn in class over the course of something like 20 minutes, which for me isn't near enough time, so it is largely unfinished
          - the shadows from my glasses were a major pain in the ass and caused me serious grief. I would have drawn without them, but then I wouldn't have been able to see myself in the mirror, or the paper in front of me :-)
          - it doesn't look much like me :-D I am a little heavy, but damn

          • Confession: just as when I read a book I visualize what the characters look like, I have visualizations of slashdotters. None have ever come close to being accurate. I always picture you looking the same way I picture Ford Prefect;-) And I could see how it was rushed because of how uneven it is. It'd be interesting see one done now that you're so good.

Yeah I look even stupider than I act :-D Which was great when I played chess back in high school.....
  • Even I can tell it's a left hand... The subtle and not so subtle "meanings"... nice.

  • The hand looks a lot more natural than the one in the drawing with the chains. The only thing is that because of the position of the fingers and the shape they make it would have to be a fairly thin brick for the fingers to be curled over it like that (does that make any sense?).

Yeah, the earlier hand curves too much; it is sooooo hard to draw what you see, and not what you freakin' THINK you see (my brain says, "oh, the hand must curve like a circle", except our fingers aren't tentacles, damn those bendy joints! :-| ) In the latest drawing, the brick is about an inch thick, since it is actually my right hand drawing my left hand holding the drawing pad :-D Which does seem pretty thin for a brick. But the fingers came out so nice I couldn't resist the urge to post it :-) Though I c
  • When I took a drawing class one of the things I had the most difficulty was drawing hands.

Or at least it required the most effort.

I am still not sure if I "got it."

I really haven't drawn much since I took the class.
    I meant to though.

"Virtual" means never knowing where your next byte is coming from.
