It should be free precisely because it's prevalent.
How about some love for Colibri notifications? No, you don't get the copying notification, and you can't have interaction, but they're pretty, customizable, and basically disappear on a mouseover.
This kind of thing makes me almost wish I'd lost a finger or a hand sometime. Screwdrivers? Cameras? Flashlights? Fingers that FALL OFF instead of HURTING when they get hit? My flesh-and-bone phalanges take too long to heal as it is. Next time I hurt one, it's coming right off.
As silly as this is, it's actually pretty neat to see a Christian organization putting out a) technology with b) multiple English translations of the bible. Maybe it'll help a few of the more ignorant Christians realize that the King James version is not the one allegedly handed down by god.
This sounds a lot like flash animations and gifs, especially as seen in Homestuck, but also occasionally seen elsewhere (Questionable Content, DrMcNinja, for example).
Basically, people who work in a medium on the internet understand that they have fewer limitations than print artists. Then when they end up getting their things printed, they have to somehow work around the animations and/or differently shaped panels.
This sounds like nothing new at all, just a restricted way to have people view comics that could happily be on the internet.
Same here, only I got mine at the town dump for free.
They have a nice long cord as well - 10' (about a meter) or so?
But yeah, they make good sounds.
I run KDE with openbox instead of Kwin, as it gives me keychains (I have approximately 75 custom keybinds), and because of the MoveResizeTo function - basically, I can semi-tile my windows with keybinds, while still floating others. The only thing I prefer about Kwin is the desktop grid plugin.
I also forgo the plasma desktop. It's too much, and the beautiful way the themes work is not a beauty I like. I prefer setting the background with nitrogen and running conkies.
Really, the only reason I *run* KDE is that it makes qt programs theme their icons appropriately and it causes the kgtk-wrapper to work.
I used to run KDE but it got to be a bit much, I prefer a cleaner-looking setup.
I do think it's the best fully-featured DE out there though - different activities for different desktops? Awesome.
Manila folder -> tag: [_^gt;
As sarcastic as I assume thas was - why, in this day and age, do we have to use manilla folders instead of tags?
Why is the internet more advanced and easier to use that my own computer, in terms of searching for and finding things?
Why can't I have a file manager that lets me MANAGE files - give them artist, source, copyright, etc tags as well as just #tags, instead of one that lets me - get this - move files around, copy, paste, and link them, and change their names.
Probably.
On the plus side, if you can survive in the deep woods long enough to figure out how to live, you'll probably be really healthy.
Ditto the Archbang. I'm using Openbox, Netwmpager (but really just to see things, not to interact with them), two Conkys, Tint2 as my panel (but only for the system tray, everything else is disabled). I launch almost every program I use through a custom keybind, and anything else I can either get through gmrun or the xdg-menu.
I'm using mostly KDE apps - Konqueror for internet and file browsing, for example.
Conky, once properly configured, is probably the best hardware-usage monitor available. Openbox, with custom keybinds (including chaining) is my absolute favorite way to interact with a desktop (I have 75 custom keybinds, including keybinds that allow Openbox to act as a psuedo-tiling WM).
perverted-justice.com has been taking down pedophiles online for years, and doing it legally.
That's certainly true. But this is really a different kind of thing. Perverted-justice is mostly (from their faq page) about keeping pedophiles out of areas of the internet that children frequent. When they do appear, they're taken down. Anonymous is trying, possibly futilely, to take down large organizations of pedophiles. I certainly laud perverted-justice, but I don't think it's directly comparable.
"I am now planning aerial machines devoid of sustaining planes, ailerons, propellers, and other external attachments, which will be capable of immense speeds"
"You should not be at all surprised, if some day you see me fly from New York to Colorado Springs in a contrivance which will resemble a gas stove and weigh as much.
"The flying machine of the future -- my flying machine -- will be heavier than air, but it will not be an airplane. It will have no wings. It will be substantial, solid, stable. You cannot have a stable airplane. The gyroscope can never be successfully applied to the airplane, for it would give a stability that would result in the machine being torn to pieces by the wind, just as the unprotected airplane on the ground is torn to pieces by a high wind. My flying machine will have neither wings nor propellers. You might see it on the ground and you would never guess that it was a flying machine. Yet it will be able to move at will through the air in any direction with perfect safety, at higher speeds than have yet been reached, regardless of weather and oblivious of 'holes in the air' or downward currents. It will ascend in such currents if desired. It can remain absolutely stationary in the air even in a wind for great length of time. Its lifting power will not depend upon any such delicate devices as the bird has to employ, but upon positive mechanical action."
