Comment Re:Eats, Shoots, and Leaves (Score 5, Funny) 1343

Another example of a grammarian joke:

An office manager has had a bad financial year, and has to make a decision to let someone go. The newest workers are Sandra and Jack. Both have performed very well, and the manager likes them both equally. He decides, on a whim, to fire the first person that visits the water cooler on Monday morning.

Monday comes around, and the boss watches from his office. Sandra is the first to go up to the cooler. The manager goes over to her.

"Sandra", he says, "I have a tough decision to make. I have to either lay you or Jack off."

Sandra sighs as she's pouring her water. "Could you jack off?" she replies. "I feel like shit this morning."

Sound Generator Lethal From 10 Meters 314

penguinrecorder writes "The Thunder Generator uses a mixture of liquefied petroleum, cooking gas, and air to create explosions, which in turn generate shock waves capable of stunning people from 30 to 100 meters away. At that range, the weapon is relatively harmless, making people run in panic when they feel the sonic blast hitting their bodies. However, at less than ten meters, the Thunder Generator is capable of causing permanent damage or killing people."

Comment Where does this impulse to sue come from? (Score 1) 227

Perhaps I'm being naive, but why would anyone sue a company for not hiring them? Company A interviews 20 people for position B, happens to look at prospect C's Facebook profile in the process, doesn't like what they see and go for candidate D. They tell everyone but D "Sorry, we found someone else". That's just how it goes. What basis does C have to sue them?

It wasn't edited...

Got to bring you up on that. The process whereby the raw footage of a movie is creatively assembled into a cohesive storyline is, in fact, "editing". So yes, it has been edited. Whether it's the "final cut" is another matter. A picky point, maybe, but a surprising number of people don't understand what "film editing" actually means (and it doesn't help when a movie DVD proclaims "unedited version!" on the back cover, which actually implies that what you have there is 50 hours of dailies).

Things to be excited about? With new versions of GNOME and X.Org, there's quite a bit, ranging from the context-sensitive Deskbar search to an audio and video compatible SIP client to the new Network Manager (manage wired, Wi-Fi, VPN, and cellular broadband connections in one place)."

Ralph Nader Might Announce Run For President 333

Nader will appear on NBC's 'Meet the Press' tomorrow to announce whether he will launch another White House bid. Nader kicked off his 2004 presidential run on the show. Kevin Zeese, who was Nader's spokesman during the 2004 presidential race said, 'Obviously, I don't think Meet the Press host Tim Russert would have him on for no reason.'"

Criminals Attacking Myspace, Facebook IE Plugins 70

An anonymous reader writes "According to the Washington Post's Security Fix blog, cyber criminals are populating the Internet with Web sites designed to exploit several recently-discovered security holes in a half-dozen widely used ActiveX plug-ins for IE 6 and 7, most notably the one offered by Facebook and MySpace to help users upload photos. The sites, advertised via links in email and instant message spam, also 'probe for other vulnerable IE plug-ins, including two recently discovered from Yahoo! and one for QuickTime (this one attacks a vulnerability Apple patched just last month). The sites also throw in an exploit against a six-month-old IE flaw.' The article notes that the SANS Internet Storm Center has released a GUI tool to help users safely deactivate the vulnerable plug-ins in the Windows registry."
