NZ has had their asses kicked due to the introduction of mammal species such as ferrets, weasels and possums. They have been isolated for so long that they do not have any native land mammals, so the devastation they cause to local fauna and flora has been of extremely high proportions - and is the main cause of the endangered status of many species of Kiwi.

Ok, ok. So there's all this big nerd news that SixApart (a bloggythingish companytype doover) have plans to acquire Livejournal. (Although, y'know, it can't be that big if'n it's not been Slashdotted yet. Har.)

Journal Journal: Firefox 1.0 released!

Mozilla has released Firefox 1.0, with a reasonable amount of fanfare and attention in the press. I'm still running 0.9.3 at home (not sure when sarge will have 1.0 available to apt-get; i'm going to be keeping an eagle eye out for it, though), but I have been fortunate enough to have my work machine updated to run the very shiny 1.0.

It appears that there's a campaign going on at the moment to Spread Firefox, and they're trying to raise money to get a full page ad in the NY Times. I'm thinking of making a donation, if not for the ad, then for the rest of the campaign at least.
