The President of S.P. Korolev Rocket & Space Corporation Energia, Nikolai Sevastyanov, announced yesterday that his corporation, based at Korolev, near Moscow, is to construct six Soyuz and three Progress spacecraft for NASA. Between 2009 and 2011, the nine spacecraft will be built under a contract between Russia's Federal Space Agency Roscosmos and NASA.

Yesterday, he reaffirmed his plan for a manned lunar landing by 2015: 'I believe that our country is better equipped for such a task, since we have technology, highly-qualified experts and scientific data that would allow not only to substantially reduce technical risks, but also increase economic efficiency'.
