This is the second successful launch in a row for Elon Musk's space exploration startup. Later this year the company will launch its larger Falcon 9 rocket, which could be used to carry cargo to the International Space Station. RazakSAT was designed by ATSB and carries a high resolution camera, if it is intact, the satellite will take photographs of Earth that could be used to better manage natural resources."

NX technology was developed by NoMachine to handle remote X Window connections and make a graphical desktop display usable over the Internet. "FreeNX's primary target is to replace the one closed component and is written in a mix of several thousand lines of Bash, Expect and C, making FreeNX difficult to maintain," according to Google."Designed from scratch with flexibility and maintainability in mind, Neatx minimizes the number of involved processes and all code is split into several libraries." ET: Quake Wars used a modified version of iD's Tech 4 (Doom 3) engine, which included the first generation MegaTexture tech. Don't forget Prey as well, that was Tech 4 too. The new Wolfenstein is Tech 4.
But definately agree, doesn't make financial sense to go with these so called "AAA" engines with their massive licensing costs. Especially with the state of open-source engines improving constantly, and cheaper engines such as Torque or Unity providing excellent visuals for under $1k, games technology just isn't the cash cow it once was.

Edible "Intelligent Pills" 105
Ian Lamont sends along a brief note from the Industry Standard about "intelligent" pills that can help doctors record information about drug dosages, heart rate, respiratory rate, and other metrics. The pills, being developed by Proteus Biomedicals, have "digestible sensors" made out of food products and are activated by stomach fluids. A receiver that is similar to a skin patch picks up the data and can be passed on to a 3G mobile network, and from there to hospitals or doctors' offices. According to the Proteus site, the sensors cost a few cents per pill. The devices, currently in clinical trials, made #8 on Wired's list of the top technology breakthroughs of 2008.
