I mean, seriously, even an old 200 mhz Linux box set up as a server can do crypto at wire speed (100 mbit ethernet).
How many simultaneous gmail sessions do you think it would take to reach 'wire speed'? I'm rather sure that if they were all SSL your 200mhz Linux server would have smoke pouring out of it before it reached 10mb.
