Because the news has to sensationalize everything. The hospitalization rate is about 2% of people who are not asymptomatic infections. They can't scare people by saying "596 people were hospitalized for COVID across all of the UK." About a dozen years ago, my wife and I were in Chicago to visit her sister. The teaser for the evening news was, "There may be something in your house that could kill you at any minute. News at nine." We didn't bother to watch to find out what it was. I always wondered would they be culpable for not telling us right away if the whatever-it-was did kill us before the evening news.

Somebody didn't do the math... 0.0862 / 25 is 0.3448%. According to the US Mint*, "The life expectancy of a circulating coin is 30 years, while paper money usually only lasts for 18 months." So, four quarters, which cost ~34.5Â to make, amortize to ~1.15Â per year. A dollar bill amortizes to ~4.13Â per year.
