Comment ChatGPT loves to write code that doesn't work (Score 2) 66

Stack Overflow can be pretty annoying but usually you can find an answer with some decent Googling. Literally every time I've tried to use ChatGPT to answer a code question it has responded with incorrect information or invalid code. I've had it hallucinate what the client classes are for 3rd party libraries. It *looked* like something viable but it sure wasn't. It also just invents its own syntax for languages like terraform that isn't anywhere close to something that would ever work.

Comment Bricking (Score 1) 32

My fitbit a few years ago bricked itself one month after the warranty expired. My wife bought herself a Versa Two awhile ago. It got stuck in an endless reboot cycle and couldn't be reset. It was a few months after the warranty ended. Based on our anecdotal experience Fitbits already kill themselves as soon as is economically feasible for them.

Comment What about live sports? (Score 1) 145

In my area only Sunday MLB games are broadcast on FM. The other six days of the week they are only available on AM. Technically I guess I could stream fubo from my phone while driving but that seems like a solution in need of a problem as compared to just listening to the regular AM broadcast.

Comment Some reviews do publish color and grayscale specs (Score 1) 143

You don't really know if it matches manufacturer specs unless you test it anyways. Some reviewers do test. Look at https://www.soundandvision.com/content/vizio-pq65-f1-lcd-ultra-hdtv-review-test-bench as an example. The print magazine Home Theater which merged with that used to post the color graphs with measured vs. expected too.

Comment I muted that commercial, I must be stealing (Score 1) 372

Ok, so if you don't watch and listen to every single commercial while tuned into realtime broadcasts is that stealing? Following Dvorak's logic it would seem so. If I record a show and watch a particularly entertaining commercial multiple times do I build up credit for skipping commercials later in the recording?

Even if you aren't watching the commercial the broadcasters have already been paid for it. Did VCRs kill the advertiser based revenue stream for televisions? Of course it didn't. Most people want to watch their television in realtime and don't want to hassle with recording it. As Dvorak overstates in his article, it does require effort to use a recording device.

This is the exact same mentality of studios who forcefeed you commercials at the start of a DVD with no way to skip them.
