Without having read the article about how they actually performed the experiment, yes, your computer is an extension of your body. For an astoundingly clear analysis read "Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man" by McLuhan. You never knew light bulbs were so interesting.
You're getting hung up on what cognitive scientists called intentionality -- see Brentano's intentionality. A typewriter is only an extension of your self because you imbue it with intentionality, a monkey can't do that because a monkey doesn't understand type, or written language like you or I do.
In the primate's defense, I'm sure that teaching a monkey to type would follow shortly after teaching it to read and spell.
