A Wiki For Cable and Connector Pin-Outs 107

Nicola Asuni writes to let us know about a new resource for hardware hackers: a wiki about pinouts — hardware interfaces of modern and obsolete hardware. "Created with the same MediaWiki software that was developed for the Wikipedia project, AllPinouts.org is a wiki that allows users to get and share information about hardware interfaces, including pinouts of ports, expansion slots, and other connectors of computers and different electronic devices (i.e. cellular phones, GPS, PDA, game consoles, etc.). All text is available under the GNU Free Documentation License and may be distributed or linked accordingly. The 'pinout' (or 'pin-out') of a connector identifies each individual pin, which is critical when creating, repairing or hacking cable assemblies and adapters."

Negroponte says Linux too 'Fat' 839

Cadef writes "According to a story on CNet News.com, Nicholas Negroponte says that Linux has gotten too fat, and will have to be slimmed down before it will be practical for the $100 laptop project. From the article: 'Suddenly it's like a very fat person [who] uses most of the energy to move the fat. And Linux is no exception. Linux has gotten fat, too.'"

Yes, and then you've also cost the other 127 people in the organization who couldn't care less about HRPROD22-NA01 at least 30 seconds to read and discard the email, plus the lost time for task switching between what they were doing and reading your email. This equates to 2 hours of lost time with one press of the send-button.

One thing that technology has made very easy is for a single person to annoy a very large group of people with minimal effort. And that person does not even have to be out to annoy them, merely stupidity suffices. In fact, technology has not only increased the power of the competent to do good, it has also multiplied the power of the evil or incompetent to do bad (SPAM anyone?).
