nathanielinbrazil writes: Konami founder and developer Hideo Kojima predicts gaming console is a dying breed. Anticipates gaming on demand via Internet. "It's a bold prediction," Sony Computer Entertainment Japan President Hiroshi Kawano told reporters nervously. "We hope he continues to develop for platforms, but we deeply respect his sense of taking on a challenge." Kojima launches his follow-up game Heavy Metal Solid Gear: Peace Walker in late April designed for the PSP.

Man-Made Atomic Clocks the Best In the Universe 267

An anonymous reader writes "The widespread belief by astrophysicists that pulsars and white dwarfs are the best clocks in the universe is wrong, say two Australian physicists. John Hartnett and Andre Luiten from the University of Western Australia have recently shown that man-made terrestrial atomic clocks take the crown, contrary to numerous claims in astrophysical literature that the natural timing provided by pulsars and white dwarfs is the most precise. The preprint of their paper, available on the arXiv, shows that terrestrial clocks exceed the accuracy and stability of the astrophysical 'clocks' by all sensible measures, in some cases by several orders of magnitude."

This weekend saw the delivery of iPads into hundreds of thousands of filthy hands. I managed to get my hands on a 32GB unit and put it through its paces for a battery charge and a half, and wanted to take a few minutes to share some notes with you. But if you don't care to read the whole review, let me give you a hint: I am typing this review on my laptop.

nathanielinbrazil writes: Microsoft has sued a British manufacturer over the infingement of four of its patents for Xbox game controllers. The suit was filed in Seattle, Washington and Datel has yet to response. Datel is a United Kingdom company with a U.S. unit and has produced two specific controllers — the TurboFire and WildFire — that Microsoft wants stopped.

I understand that the only way a bankruptcy court would be involved is because another court had entered the fray. I suspect that another court had granted one of the lenders the right to auction off the SITE, including the domain name. It was scheduled and DOM files the Motion to Dismiss claiming he had both domestic and international bidders on a date certain. Whether or not the price makes sense, he will be compelled to demonstrate to the court that he indeed did have those potential buyers.

Operational turmoil has put its owner in the doghouse with its creditors, who want to take over. "It's the best domain in the world by far," said Mike Mann, who has tried to keep the creditors at bay. Sex.com is estimated to be worth $100 m. Let the games begin!

The US Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration today said it was doing just that by bringing in NASA engineers with expertise in areas such as computer controlled electronic systems, electromagnetic interference, and software integrity to help tackle the issue of unintended vehicle acceleration in Toyotas. The NHTSA review of the electronic throttle control systems in Toyotas is to be completed by late summer." We're really in trouble when NASA has no choice but to call Bruce Willis.

An anonymous reader writes "At 1:06 p.m. Central European Summer Time (CEST) today, the first protons collided at 7 TeV in the Large Hadron Collider. These first collisions, recorded by the LHC experiments, mark the start of the LHC's research program."
