Your assumption that it's either binary or not is a binary assumption.
In an analog world, it can vary between "binary" and "not binary", so it could be "almost completely binary", "almost completely analog", or anywhere in between.
Analogously (ahem), There are two kinds of people in the world-- people that divide people into two kinds (binary people), and people who don't (analog).
