Journal munger1102-18's Journal: Fast cash from fast food? 23

Are fast food companies just as evil as tobacco companies? Recently, the same lawyers that forced tobacco companies to cough up billions of dollars in legal settlements have started to take on the fast food industry.

The complaint? That fast food companies don't give customers enough information about the health problems that can be caused by eating too much fast food. This article suggests that they just might have a case.

What do you think? Do obese McDonald's patrons have anyone but themselves to blame? Or should they be able to cash in on the misdeeds of fast food companies?

Fast cash from fast food?

  • i think it is one the person what happens to them. they can't blame it on the fast food place. if u choose to order and eat the food, that ur fault. its not there fault if u dont work out of stuff
    • i agree, we dont need to blame our problems on other people. people know the consequences of eating a cheeseburger and they do it anyway. its nobodys fault but their own.
    • I agree with your opinion because what I eat is my personal decision. I do not want to be an obese, so I do not like to eat fast food. Before people who are an obese blame fast food industry, they have to think about themselves why they become an obese.
  • this is the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard in my life. if these fat ass people win a lawsuit then i am going to jump off a cliff because America is going down hill. mcdonalds is not responsible for how i look or whether i have a membership to the YMCA to work out. these fat people are just looking to make a buck so they can buy some more apple pies and cheese cakes.
  • ok, yuo would think the grease dripping off your burger would be a good hint that there was a high content of fat in your food. the fact taht some people are saying that they were not warned about the high fat content is absurd. you know a salad is better for you than a greasy slab of meat. what is the world coming to! i could sue tv stations for keeping me up late at night because there are good shows on, do they need to tell me to go to sleep? i don't think so.
  • It is crazy for people to be able to sue a fast food company because its food made then fat. It is a common known fact that fast food is not good for the consumer and to be able to sue the company for it is obserd.
    • i totally agree. it's ur choice to eat fast food and i'm sure that everyone knows that eating them would increase ur chance of gaining weight.
  • This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. I remember learning in preschool what junk food was and what healthy food was, and fast food sure as hell wasn't one of them. No one is oblivous to the affects of junk food, everyone knows that that it isn't good for you! I think that Richard Daynard is now bored and needs something eles to bitch about when these people willingly choose to self destruct themselves with a Big Mac. Please.

everyone knows that fast food resturants are 90% fatty foods...heck even the new parfaits are high in calories and fat. Everyone will be fine if they eat things like that in moderation, but a big mac a day will deff not keep the doc away. sueing a fast food co. for something like that is ABSURD.
  • i think it is the person eating at mc donalds all the time's fault because everyone knows fast food is not healthy, so you have no one to blame but yourself when you end up over sized. these people trying to sue are jsut greedy.
  • I think that it is the individual's responsibility for them being obese and what they put into their body. The fast food restaurants should not be responsible. Plus, technically you can eat anything you want, as long as you burn off the calories you intake plus more in order to lose weight.
    • Yes I agree that it isn't all of the restaurants fault, but can everyone actually say that they are perfectly happy with their body? So by askingt this I am saying is it true that if you know that you aren't perfect then you can participate in what can be imperfect because it is ok to let it slide everyonce and a while.
  • I think this is riduculous. People suing tobacco company when they get cancer might have a case, but not obesed people suing fast food restaurants. I think a kid would know that eating cheeseburgers or fries would make you gain weight. Also, getting obesed or not is a personal responsibility AND choice. whoever sues this should get a fine.
  • people should know everyone in want a scapegoat for everything obsed people just want mcdonald to be their scapegoat by suing mcdonald when they know that it their fault to eat in the first place
  • I don't feel that people can blame fast food companies for there obesity. People should have the common sence to know that fast food is not to good for you. There is no one to blame but yourself for eating the food.
  • I think it is a individual problem because I can choose any kinds of food for a meal. Everyone knows fast food might lead to an obese. Making decision what I want to eat is a personal preference. If I do not want to be an obese, I can eat other foods and I can also do exercise.
  • Have we not all fallen subject to a commercial, drank a beverage because the person on tv looked cool while doing it. So if it was the goal of advertising to sell the product to the people that don't need it then it wouldn't work. So if you ask me then the fast food corps. need to take a little bit of the blame. It isn't all of there fault, They need to post more evidence, of what they are doing, show the methods of cooking this and that, in general they need to show all. So the public can see why they make the profit, and why the need to hook you in with the latest look.
    • I think there is enough evidence that fast food is unhealthy. Every where you look there is something about eating healthier I mean look at the subway commercials! But I do agree just for fast food restaurants sakes maybe they should post nutritional facts somewhere to avoid stupid situations like this. I bet the obese keep going and eating there though!
  • This is ludicrous! Everyone knows fast food goes straight to the hips! The people who aren't happy with their size are just blaming fast food places so they won't have to blame themselves; which they should be doing!
