Besides, who wants all the extra kruft that goes along with Gedit or Kate on a server?

If you want to use Kate to edit files on a server:

File > Open > fish://servername/path/to/file

More about fish: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F...

That's just one thing I love about Kate. Something else I like is the 'map' of the file you're working on, in the scroll bar.

Settings > Configure > Editor Component > Appearance > Borders > Show scrollbar mini-map.

This was my experience too. I record a load of stuff, "aah, I'll watch it later", and before long I've got a backlog of days worth of video. Not long after I stop adding stuff to the recording schedule because there's already a load to watch. Net result: don't record, don't watch. Haven't had a TV license for 18 months now. This isn't something that happened because I got the internet - I had broadband 5 years before I got MythTV working. Perhaps that says something about how hard it is to get MythTV working ;-)

I think all the non-GNOME desktops can expect to gain some users from this, and I dearly hope that that no-middle-click-to-paste virus doesn't infect any other software projects.
