This is the first good advice that I have read on the always popular subject of geek love, in a long time. Attitude can often be the biggest problem. If you think "I am socially incompetent and nobody loves me", you won't even notice your chances swooshing by. Tell me about it! Thats an attitude I'm finaly getting over now, but I've had my share of loneliness. I've also found that it helps to have other interest than computers. It's easier to talk to a girl about music than about kernel code.
I also think that most geeks are able to be in romantic relationships and anyone who says otherwise is just being an idiot.
