Meanwhile, my Windows 10 install from 2016 still works without a hitch on my main machine. And yes, before you ask, I do have an old eeePC with Mint and a few Linux VMs, not to mention my server and a host of Pis. Linux-based OSs in my house exceed Windows installs 5:1. Still, my daily driver is Windows.

I kind of dropped from LInux at home. I still dual boot, but Windows as I game on my PC at home. Now workin, that's different. I use Linux as Desktop and servers Linux too.

Looked at this myself, more so for servers. But would struggle even more on the desktop. I use Netflix, Prime Video and other services like Spotify. But I understand the DRM aspect doesn't work in browsers under the *BSD desktop world. I spent years wanting access to services like this, Spotify have always had a .deb package, but the browser version works fine and client is easily installed on most distros these days. I know there are alternatives, but not interested in using them. If I can login and just user all the web services I have used for years with BSD, that use the DRM in the browser for example, I'm all over it. Servers, I don't think the virtualisation management with services like web GUI is there yet. If anyone can say otherwise on *BSD desktops and all has changed, I might give it a go again, would love to.

Submission + - OpenShot Video Editor Achieves $35k on Kickstarter, Final Goal in Reach! (kickstarter.com) 5

JonOomph writes: The popular open source video editor, OpenShot, has less than 39 hours remaining on popular crowd-funding site, Kickstarter.com. The lead developer, Jonathan Thomas, has proposed a revolutionary new feature, which would allow users to offload CPU, memory, and disk cache to a local server (or multiple local servers), dramatically increasing the speed of previewing and rendering. The more servers added to the pool, the faster the video editing engine becomes (with the primary limitation being network bandwidth). If the final goal of $40k is reached in the remaining hours, this feature will be added to the next version of OpenShot.
