Journal mpost4's Journal: Man dead where I live, and I hear the thud to boot 4

Well this is an odd day for me, this morning I hear this "THUD", it sounded to me like a very large newspaper hitting the ground outside of my door. When I say very large I mean about a double to triple size sunday paper. I just ignore it at the time. When I leave the house this morrning I see a yellow tape around the elevator shaft, odd but I think nothing of it. Well when I get to work my mom calls to see if I am ok, she saw on the news that a 20 some guy fell down the elevator shaft in my apt complex. Well I started to add and figure I might have heard the guy land, and the yellow tape now make sence to me as to why.

The odd thing is I still doubt the Thud I heard was the guy landing, because I think it should sound a bit more wet. But it not like I heard people die before.

UPDATE: As you will see in one of the posts the guy apperantly did live (Thank God, but ouch still to fall like that) I still don't like the fact that I heard it.

Yet another update: I talked to the land manager and found that the news had it wrong again, he did not have his arm amputated, that got there because when the police were removing him the talked about how it might need to be, but it turned out that he did not need it amputated. He is going to walk away in about a month or 2 with no lasting amputated, I must say that he is one of the luckest guys alive.

the news story I am talking about is here, and was posted by my friend jason for me

  • But a person landing is going to sound pretty solid, unless they are wrapped in wet blankets. Even if he somehow split open (unlikely), you really wouldn't hear the wet squish, because the impact of meat and bone would be so much louder. Especially through walls, which absorb more of the high frequency sounds and would just pass on the solid, bass thud.

That would've given me the willies though. I don't think you would've necessary heard a splat unless you were right next to the landing point.
You didn't have any strange urges [slashdot.org] when you heard the news I hope.... :)
  • He didn't die, but he did need to get his arm amputated. He's really messed up. It happened around 6am. Is that when you heard the noise?
