I worked in the Australian outback for a year teaching adventure programming at a camp. It was a good time, but more importantly it challenged my assumptions of who Australians are. I assumed they would be just like me, but the culture is radically different and required me to change to adapt. (For example: lots of casual drinking, Aboriginal issues only being addressed in the last 10 years, huge wide open spaces). Pick up a working holiday visa, allowing you a year to travel around, make some money, meet some locals and blow your mind.
