Virtual machine technology is revolutionary - its new at least, but seeing some of the bizarre patents over at http://www.patents.ibm.com/, I'm really wouldn't be suprised to see this technology accessable to the first organization filing for a patent.
Huh? New?? Revolutionary? Bizarre patents?
Have you ever heard of IBM VM/ESA? It has, in various forms, existed for nearly forty years - and is vastly superior in every regard to any of these "new" and "revolutionary" products.
In fact, by multiplexing itself, VM is able to perform greater feats in staged system updates than the most ambitious unix-based virtual-machine software will be able to for some time.
Believe me, there is nothing new that VMWare or any other is doing. Like almost every other "innovation" I have seen come out of microcomputer development, the newest offerings are decades behind the mainframe world.
