I just want to point out, that a similar System, called SPIN (spherical projection interface) was presented at this year's Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria.
The Device, created by Yuri(RR and Time's Up is already up and running, and uses additional bio-feedback to control the VR environment. You can see the project description including a cool video at http://www.yuri.at/spin/
