dude.. have you been to OUR prisons? I'm sorry.. I don't particularly wanna talk about other countries prisons and their legal/judicial system when we have such a F-ed system here. To be frank, I'm almost certain the Chinese legal system is very similar to ours.. more $ -> less chance to be jailed. Of course there's that thin line of "opposing the state/disrupt the peace etc".. but then again.. our government can detain, imprison you, me or anyone w/o cause by branding us enemy combatant of the state..

so really.. what's the difference?

PS. Sure some may say.. "but here.. we got free speech!" Yeah, have you tried to overthrow the US government with your speech? Try it. I'm not saying US is = to China at the moment.. but it's close...

1 take away though: it's not the Chinese government that has a policy that stated: all prisoners must do physical labor during day and gold farm at night. I'm sorry, but the summary made it seem that way. Horrible title if you ask me.

That's like saying if an American prison guard raped a prisoner, the title would be "USA Raped a Prisoner". Misleading.. right?

Mythic GM Talks Warhammer Launch, Banning Gold Sellers 251

Gamasutra has an interview with Mark Jacobs, GM and co-founder of Mythic, about the recent launch of Warhammer Online. He talks about handling the heavy demands on the servers, and how the launch is going better than the opening of Dark Age of Camelot (during which "somebody parked a truck on our internet"). Jacobs also blogged about the glee with which he and his team have been banning gold spammers: "We don't wait and let them stay in the game and ban them en-masse, my guys ban their useless, time-consuming butts right away. We have a strike team whose sole job it is to get these guys off our servers as quickly as possible. This weekend, we unveiled a new wrinkle in the fight against them, the public ban message. Players on our Phoenix Throne server have been treated to special messages when a gold seller/spammer is banned. I've given them a wide leash to come up with creative messages to tell the entire community who has been banned and we keep it within the Warhammer universe."

New Startup Hopes to Slay the Botnet

eldavojohn writes "How do you identify Botnet traffic on your network? Well, the problem with current commercial technologies is that they generate too many false positives. But a new startup name Nemean Networks hopes to solve all that by building signatures of traffic at many different levels of the network stack. 'Finding the proper sensitivity threshold for NIDS sensors has always been a problem for network and security administrators. Lower the threshold and some attacks get through the signature screening; raise it too high and false positives flourish. Nemean attempts to find the proper balance by gathering traffic sent to a honeynet to build signatures based on weighted data. The numerical weights are entirely subjective and based on the creators' expertise. The data is then clustered and fed through an algorithm to determine threat levels and develop signatures.'"
