I'm all for exploring alternative forms of generating electricity. The continued investment in these technologies will be very helpful in building a future that generates more power with less pollution. I also think that it is useful to look at these numbers in context. The state of Tamil Nadu generates around 23,000 MW of electricity using many types of fuels and technologies. Coal fired power plants account for about 10,000 MW making it the single largest source of power for the state. This is similar to many developing areas. What is impressive is that they are able to use so many different means of producing power. Hydro electric in Tamil Nadu is 2,200 MW, Nuclear is 1,000 MW, and 'other renewable' a hefty 8,000 MW. In comparison the Three Gorges Dam, located in China has a capacity of 22,500 MW. It is the largest power station in the world, also the largest construction project ever.

The electoral college system was created for a slave nation that consisted of only 13 states and had a population of less than 4 million people. In 1789 only about 6 percent of the population was allowed to vote because voting was restricted to wealthy white Protestants. Since then we've made over twenty changes to the constitution in an effort to fix some of these iniquities. This country was supposed to be a government of the people, by the people, for the people. Right now the popular vote means nothing. I say the popular vote should trump the electoral college. It was fine for its time, but should have been abolished along with slavery.

Submission + - Best IT-infrastructure for a small company 2

DiniZuli writes: I've been imployed by a small NGO to remake their entire IT-infrastructure from scratch. It's a small company counting 20 employees. I would like to ask the /.-crowd and gather some experience and knowledge from you — what worked out best for you and why? I came up with a small list:
Are there any must have books on building the IT infrastructure?
New desktops: should it be laptops (with dockingstations), regular desktop machines or thin clients? A special brand? Ubuntu, Windows or?
Servers: We need a server for authentication and usermanagement. We also need an internal mediaserver (we have thousands of big image and videofiles, and the archive grows bigger every year). Finally we would like to have our webserver in house. Which hardware is good? Which setup, software and OS'es have worked the best for you?
Network: We are redoing everything: routers, schwitches, wireless, authentication — even the wiring. Which setup do you think is the best for a small company?
Which backup solutions do you use?
Since we are remaking everything, this list is not exhaustive, so feel free to comment on anything important not on the list.
