Even if quantum computers can scale and maintain coherence long enough to finish a calculation, their only real use is running Shor's algorithm to break public-key encryption. And there's only one customer for that - the government. So it'll be export-controlled.

Grover's algorithm is nice, but it only gives a quadratic speedup. If you use travelling salesman as an example, for small problems conventional computers are faster (higher clock speed, massive parallelism). And for large problems, quantum computers still take too long. There's a tiny goldilocks zone, that's probably not commercially viable.

I remember a study from decades ago where they blindfolded volunteers and asked them to walk in a straight line across a flat area.
They all walked in circles, with a surprisingly small radius. Don't know if the circles were clockwise or not.

The numbers don't back up this narrative. Poor, indebted countries have higher birthrates.

There's no statistical correlation between debt and TFR. The only strong correlation is female years of education. And it's a negative correlation.

If you look across countries, the variable that correlates most strongly with TFR is years of female education (-0.82 correlation).

So raising TFR would mean fewer women at university, fewer abortions, and more teen pregnancies. The exact opposite of current policy.
