The upcoming Hardy Heron release (8.04 LTS) has the latest Xorg, which supposedly has improved multi-monitor detection. And while I think there are some options in Admin (or Prefs) for changing monitors, I find the nvidia-settings panel to work the best. Set it up the way you like, then get it to write its own xorg.conf file
It's funny. Laugh.

Submission + - Comedy Group Almost Defeats APEC Security (abc.net.au)

ajdlinux writes: Members of the Australian comedy group The Chaser were arrested today after attempting to breach security at the APEC Leaders Conference in Sydney. Chas Licciardello and Julian Morrow were arrested, along with nine crew members, just a short distance away from the InterContinental Hotel where President Bush is staying, having already cleared one police checkpoint disguised as a Canadian motorcade. ""No particular reason we chose Canada," said Taylor. "We just thought they'd be a country who the cops wouldn't scrutinise too closely, and who feasibly would only have three cars in their motorcade — as opposed to the 20 or so gas guzzlers that Bush has brought with him."" Submission + - AMD to open ATI specs (0xdeadbeef.com)

An anonymous reader writes: AMD has announced they are releasing the specs for all new radeon chipsets, and will be working with the open source community to develop a fully functional 2d and 3d graphics driver. AMD appears to be following in Intel's footsteps with upcoming releases. If AMD is successfull NVidia will have real competition in the GNU/Linux gaming arena. While past support by ATI was unsatisfactory the new AMD buyout appears to be having some effect.
