An anonymous reader writes: Google has teamed up with a microcontroller maker Microchip to develop an API for a piece of software called Google PowerMeter, according this EE Times story. Why? Because Google wants to host all the details of the electricity and other energy consumption of people's homes. It wants to do this so that it can show people on their iGoogle homepages when and where they are consuming energy so that they can start to reduce their power consumption.

The good news is that it is an opt-in service and free so you don't have to make Google your energy-monitor if you dont't want to do so.

Saw a presentation of the new Aruba 3 OS last week, and also got a demo of the AirWave used in the Aruba headquarter. This is a very good solution if you want to have full control and it's an event that you want to have control over and maybe have them on a regular basis. Could be that it's an overkill for this kind of event, but take a look here http://www.airwave.com/resources/demos/ to get a some new thoughts. It can also give you a heatmap of the coverage of all your AP's around in the event area.

Everyone knows that most of the students sit up all night slashdotting, playing WoW, facebooking, digging. The night is the best time to have some "quality time" with you and your computer!
