5) Oracle Enterprise Linux is cheaper than RHEL, and in some ways better. The yum repo's are open and free, and they offer support that cost less then RHEL, and it can be purchased per incident instead of a subscription.
The yum repos are free from Oracle? Since when? They do the same thing RH does, charges you to access them via a yearly subscription fee. Though, yes I can get 3 years of ULN for the price of 1 year of RHN.

I bought 6 Seagate Savvio 300GB (2.5" SAS 10k spin) drives yesterday. They were $199 (relatively cheap) and now are $267 or higher at most eTailers.
I'm sure most of it's fear mongering but some "analysts" have suggested it may take "several quarters" for the drive mfg's to recover from this. So I figured why chance it and bought what I needed rather than deal with potential inflation for 2 years.

Most insurance plans do not cover purchases of hearing aids.
MOST? Almost none do. I wear a HA and I've come out of pocket about 7 grand in the last 10 years.

Other social networking sites are also utilized to mobilize physical protests. Anonymous has no leader and is reliant on the collective power of individuals acting in such a way that benefits the movement.

OLPC Manufacturer to Sell $200 Laptop On Open Market 214
srinravi writes "ArsTechnica reports that Quanta, the company manufacturing the XO laptops, has plans to begin selling low-cost budget mobile computers for $200 later this year. 'According to Quanta president Michael Wang, the company plans to leverage the underlying technologies associated with OLPC's XO laptop to produce laptop computers that are significantly less expensive than conventional laptops.' While OLPC plans to sell the laptops in bulk to governments, which will then distribute the hardware to school children, the XO computer itself is not for sale on the open market. These XO-like commercial devices are still something of an unknown, but it has been announced they'll be using Open Source software."

Microsoft has put up their own advisory on the subject, confirming this is a vulnerability that affects Windows 2000, XP, 2003 and Vista. The exploit has already been used in the wild. From the Secunia page: The vulnerability is caused due to an unspecified error in the handling of animated cursors and can e.g. be exploited by tricking a user into visiting a malicious website using Internet Explorer or opening a malicious e-mail message. Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code."
Submission + - Students sue anti-plagiarism service
jazzbazzfazz writes: It seems that some students in Virginia are not happy with the anti-plagiarism service Turnitin. The company checks prose submitted by its customers for signs that it has been copied in whole or part by comparing it to a large database of works that it maintains.
Trouble is, it also adds the submitted prose to its files and stores it for use by the company in future scans, which the students feel is illegal use of their copyrighted materials. I think they've got an excellent case, especially since they seem to have prepared for this eventuality: they're A-students, never been accused of plagiarism, and they formally copyrighted their papers prior to their submission to Turnitin.
Anyone out there know there copyright laws?

He said, 'Unlike the earlier drafts, it at least seems to not sully the good name of the GPL any more.' After his earlier criticism, some had questioned whether such controversies would lead to rifts in the community, especially if the kernel ended up under a different license than the GNU tools. But with the latest revisions, Linus will entertain moving the kernel over to the GPL v3."

These patches are usually applied by compiling and installing them onto the target system. While that upgrade procedure is well documented, it is not suitable for systems that don't have the OpenBSD compiler set installed for whatever reason, such as disk-space constraints. To fill this gap, open source projects like binpatch were started to allow administrators to create binary patches using the BSD make system. This article proposes an alternative method to build binary patches using a chroot environment in an attempt to more closely mirror the instructions given in the OpenBSD patch files."
