Journal milquetoast811's Journal: i does 1

invited to two weddings in one week, end of may/early june. it's the age of co-habitation at this point in our lives, late-twenties, with roommates or with lovers cum spouses. we stand at the precipice of the rest of our lives, and the billowing winds seem a bit frightening to withstand by ourselves. taking the next step: what does it take?

i never really thought i would want to have long term companionship. for awhile there, i was happy to be footloose and fancy-free. but a period of complete isolation uncovered a lone skeleton in my closet that yearned for others as haunting partners. suprising, considering my role model.

my parents were married in their early thirties but basically lived apart since the legal ceremony. my father, the wanderer around the globe, my mother, the trailblazer in a new country. how that fulfilled the traditional definition of marriage i can never understand. having little to no communication between each other, what was the tipping point in their relationship when they decided it was better to be legally bound than to go their separate ways? was there really any true feelings of love between them? do one-sided shouting marathons and buckets of tears constitute affection? in most senses, they never were really husband and wife. i guess their progeny was the only real testament to their union. other people have gotten married for less.

my newly revised thirty year plan: med school --> residency --> national health service corps --> doctors without borders or peace corps, probably both --> film school...(make art, ah that elusive muse, and do habitat global village in between times). who is it who said it won't happen if you don't write it down?
