While the incremental convenience may not seem like much, the Speedpass is very popular, and it does give Mobil a boost in customer loyalty and customer switching costs. One benefit of RFID over the standard credit card is the liberation from the card format. You can easily have the RFID device on your key chain, which is very convenient.
