If Nokia abandons MeeGo with this deal then any hope we have of being able to get new phones with the same freedom as the N900 will be fed to the meat grinder.

MeeGo and Maemo were always just a nerd diversion that are indicative of the trouble Nokia got into. You can't build a multi-billion euro business on creating nerd-gasms, as much as many of the contributors here might hope.

If Nokia had actually managed to create any decent software in the past four years since the iPhone came out, then none of this would've been necessary. All they needed to do was either bring Symbian into the 21st century or provide a suitable alternative and they couldn't manage that. They might as well just created a giant pile of money and burnt it for all their R&D spending achieved over the past few years.

If web pages actually gave readers what they wanted, they wouldn't need to be afraid. Multi-page articles are a complete annoyance and have now become much more bearable thanks to this feature.

Just to give an idea of how much the author of the article respects the reader, here is an extract from another article that Jim Lynch wrote about the evil threat that is Safari Reader and what it provides:

I highlighted the two worst parts of the description:

1. No ads.

2. Multi-page articles are now essentially one page.

Clearly he is thinking about the consumer when creating content if that statement is anything to go by

On other topic.... his website uses the annoying tynt copy/paste functionality. Argh!

A copy of OS X and Mac is profitable for Apple. A copy of OS X and an netbook probably isn't.

Hey, if Apple can't make money when I pay them for a copy of their software to install on a netbook then they are doing something wrong. This is a copy that I wouldn't have bought otherwise.

Without the Hackintosh community and the knowledge that I could install Mac OS X on a netbook, I probably wouldn't have bought a netbook and a copy of OS X to go with it. I've already got one Mac laptop but it never left the house and their product line didn't have anything else that I wanted.

The whole Facebook terms of service furore was so last week! Just because you doesn't want to be on Facebook doesn't mean everyone else should stay off.

Maybe it's time to buy a tinfoil hat, close your bank accounts and never leave the house.

Also probably stay out of the front room in case the Google Street View car comes driving by.

At least with a hosptial I can say, "No I don't want that procedure" or "No I think I'll try a different hospital".

Do you think that really works when you've just been hit by a car and can't talk let alone think straight? "No, I'll have my heart bypass somewhere else" or "No, it wasn't a stoke. I'm just a little paralysed on one side. It'll clear up soon."

I imagine all those tests and procedures just get added to your bill. A very, very large bill, especially if my minimum wage job doesn't provide insurance. I'd much rather have my NHS than worry that I might not be covered if I burn myself on some scalding coffee.

You do realise that during the Second World War the United Kingdom locked up a lot a people who had any connection with Germany. Just like the United States locked up anyone related in any way to Japan.

So are you saying that the US should arrest who isn't white or English speaking? Hang on you do that already - especially those nasty blacks! Or just send them to Guantanamo.

Possibly the United States should just arrest anyone called Hussein, especially if it is a middle name? Barack Hussein Obama, anyone?

What exactly are you trying to argue? "Poor me, I'm American and someone tried to bomb me. Once. A long time ago."
