I'm a brit and the only reason I dont buy a car is that fuel is so darn expensive, if I was in America I would buy a car tommorrow, no questions asked ... So the tax works, its good, the more people who are like me and can't buy cars the better for the environment.

This is a good example of why a 'mob-rule' type system doesn't really work, I may be a pessimist but I have a feeling that your average Joe is always going to vote very selfishly. I'm close to being swayed by the less government is more government argument on nearly all issues - except the environment, this is where we really need to be saved from ourselves ...

Back to britain ... now if they would just spend all the fuel tax they get on public transport (and not more pies for mr prescott) then we would be laughing ...
