Take a look at Google (search engine)... they are running one of the largest Linux clusters in the world with over 6000 (six thousand) Linux boxes! They are also arguably the best search engine on the net with over 800 TB of disk storage and an aggregate I/O bandwidth of about 150 GB/sec!
