Comment Fantastic news for Linux tourists (Score 1) 350

This might get me to go back to my old dual-boot setup. I very much a linux beginner, and used Ubuntu pretty exclusively for the first couple of years of grad school. I loved aspects of it, but going round the houses with madwifi, ndiswrapper, and the like to get my broadcom wifi adapter to behave properly just became too difficult. For me this may significantly lower a major barrier of entry to using linux distros as everyday operating systems.

Apple Touch-Screen Netbook? 291

je ne sais quoi writes "The Apple rumor mill is churning today. Reuters and the DOW Jones news wire are reporting that an anonymous source in Taiwan has leaked that Apple has ordered some 10-inch touch-screens from WinTek, the maker of the touch-screen for the iPhone. It looks like an Apple netbook could possibly be in the works for a delivery date in Q3 of this year, in time for back-to-school sales. CNET and Engadget have completely unsubstantiated mock-ups."

Lie Detector Company Threatens Critical Scientists With Suit 367

An anonymous reader writes "The Swedish newspaper DN reports that the Israeli company Nemesysco has sent letters to researchers at the University of Stockholm, threatening legal action if they do not stop publishing findings (Google translation). An article called 'Charlatanry in forensic speech science: A problem to be taken seriously' was pulled by the publisher after threats of a libel lawsuit." Online translations can be a little wonky; if your Swedish is as bad as mine, this English-language article describes the situation well.
