Comment why not just a national tax? (Score 1) 1505

why not just have a national tax like the UK has? you pay a tax for every thing you buy and you then have non of this IRS tax evasion, because you have to buy things, so you then pay your taxes that way. Hell most states and cities get there money only from sales and property taxes. (yes some states have incomes tax but I am not in one so...)

Comment DVRs/PVRs (Score 1) 753

My thought about what time shows are on is this, I never watch a show "live" any more. I all ways just have the DVR record the show and watch it when it is a good time for me. So with more and more people having some kind of DVR why not have the show come on at some crazy time? for all I care, it could be on at midnight or 3am or when ever. All I know is that it recored it, and I go and watch it when I have the time to.

Toyota Unveils Plug-in Hybrid Prius 555

phlack writes "Toyota has announced a plug-in hybrid vehicle, based on their popular Prius. So far, it will only have a range of 8 miles on the battery (13km). They are going to test this vehicle on the public roads, apparently a first for the industry. From the article: 'Unlike earlier gasoline-electric hybrids, which run on a parallel system twinning battery power and a combustion engine, plug-in cars are designed to enable short trips powered entirely by the electric motor, using a battery that can be charged through an electric socket at home. Many environmental advocates see them as the best available technology to reduce gasoline consumption and global-warming greenhouse gas emissions, but engineers say battery technology is still insufficient to store enough energy for long-distance travel.'"

An anonymous reader writes: Gizmodo has a writeup on the new IronKey.. Self-destructing hardware encrypted and authenticated USB flash drive with onboard secure FF, high speed TOR network, password manager, online encrypted backup. Demo page here. Pretty sweet. $79 bones for a 1g, 149 for 4. Prolly the best way to stick it to AT&T/NSA, traffic 'shaping' ISPs, and other infringements on privacy by the man..

Wikipedia Infiltrated by Intelligence Agents? 428

An anonymous reader writes "International Humanitarian Law professor Ludwig Braeckeleer thinks so. In an article published yesterday in the Korean newspaper OhMyNews, he reveals a discovery he made while researching a story on the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Scotland. It turns out that a Wikipedia administrator named SlimVirgin is actually Linda Mack, a woman who as a young graduate in the 1980s was hired by investigative reporter Pierre Salinger of ABC News to help with the investigation. Salinger later came to believe that Mack was actually working for Britain's MI5 on a mission to investigate the bombing and to infiltrate and monitor the news agency. Shortly after her Wikipedia identity was uncovered, many of her edits to articles related to the bombing were permanently removed from the database in an attempt to conceal her identity. This discovery comes only months after another Wikipedia admin was caught lying about his credentials to the press. What can Wikipedia do about those who would use it for their own purposes?"
