Comment cygwin (Score -1) 531

No one's mentioned it so here it goes, Cygwin. It works so well that I wouldn't consider a different os because it would lack cygwin. I do own a mac, I've tried to work under ubuntu, but always come back to Windows + Cygwin as my environment of choice and the best compromise for real life work.

Hello, does anyone know how to select text in a terminal using the keyboard only ? I can do it in cmd.exe using alt-space - e - k then the arrows. But I've looked everywhere on how to do it in gnome terminal or cygwin without success. I did google it several times, nobody seems to have the same problem. Thanks

They've noticed, I wonder how, that I work from home. Since I might listen to some music while I work, I owe them 100 €. I haven't paid yet, not really planning to until I get a more formal order.

The rumor here is that they don't actually redistribute any of the funds collected to artists or labels, because there are some many of them state employees in their offices, writing injunctions and stuff.

I can see why, their offices are in the best rated area of Brussels. Just the rent must account to more money than what they're able to collect.

Comment Re:shouldn't they be able to design the cable also (Score -1) 258

You mean of course designing a cool hat to be worn while using anti-gravity belt that could be invented when we understand and are able to control gravity.

I would really really REALLY like to know how they are going to deploy the fracking tether, won't we need a spaceship like the B.S. Galactica for that?

Please could anyone shed some light on this, ideas? So far no-one has even mentioned this.

I have an idea, assuming we're able to deploy a very thin cable attached to a satellite in geosync with a few thrusters capable of accelerating to maintain tension in the cable.
Then send a second spacecraft along with a few rolls of that same cable, attach both spacecraft and send down-climbing robots back to earth with the extra cables. Once they reach the floors attach the new cables somewhere near the first cable.
Repeat
Now you have a heavy mass orbiting the earth attached to a strong cable. I'm not sure but I think that if we want to haul anything up, the orbiting mass has go to be at least equal to the mass on the ground.

Comment kite upwind performance (Score -1) 251

I do kite surfing quite regularly here in belgium. when the wind is really light, I keep the same kite, but stand on a 9 feet longboard, and this beats anything with a sail upwind. even a sailboat designed for going upwind. maybe not in term of angle, but in term of distance upwind, it's because the speed is so much greater with the kite. the real problem is going downwind, because the wind created by the speed is greater than the real wind, and the kite stops flying. What I can't believe about this project is that they managed to automate it.
