Internal Microsoft Vista SP1 Video 5

With so many reasons to hate this video it's hard to write them all, so I'll narrow it done to my top three: First, they used a white Clarence Clemons and their Courtney Cox looks more like my aunt Gloria than the second most desirable friend, (David Schwimmer ranks number one of course). Second, if you're going to make the mistake of trying to parody the Boss, the least you can do is equally half-ass a parody of one of his songs. If you fail, fail spectacularly. Third and most importantly, this is an internal video. Someone actually thought this would inspire employee greatness and lift morale. I wonder if the head of Microsoft's HR department has ever met real people.

10Gb Ethernet Alliance is Formed 173

Lucas123 writes "Nine storage and networking vendors have created a consortium to promote the use of 10GbE. The group views it as the future of a combined LAN/SAN infrastructure. They highlight the spec's ability to pool and virtualize server I/O, storage and network resources and to manage them together to reduce complexity. By combining block and file storage on one network, they say, you can cut costs by 50% and simplify IT administration. 'Compared to 4Gbit/sec Fibre Channel, a 10Gbit/sec Ethernet-based storage infrastructure can cut storage network costs by 30% to 75% and increases bandwidth by 2.5 times.'"

A Peek at AT&T's New Browser, Pogo 239

An anonymous reader writes "Ars Technica takes a look at Pogo, a browser from AT&T with new features like a 3-D history and bookmark view. The browser's currently in a private beta and Ars' comments aren't all necessarily glowing — particularly in the areas where performance is concerned. 'It requires Windows XP SP2 or later or Windows Vista, and its minimum hardware are surprisingly steep: a 1.6GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, and a video card with at least 256MB of VRAM. Seem like a bit much for a web browser? It is, and as we found out, these requirements posed some major challenges for us during our testing.'"

Feed Is Big Brother a Big Deal? (schneier.com)

Big Brother isn't what he used to be. George Orwell extrapolated his totalitarian state from the 1940s. Today's information society looks nothing like Orwell's world, and watching and intimidating a population today isn't anything like what Winston Smith experienced. Data...
