Comment Re:R-Studio (Score 1) 399

Another nod to R-Studio. Two weekends ago I plugged in my portable hard drive via eSATA and Vista decided to run a CHKDISK on the drive and it did something to the drive where none of the files were being displayed. I started to really panic because I had almost 400GB of data on this portable drive. After some Google searching I found R-Studio. Ran the scan on the drive in demo mode and it found everything. I paid the $49.99 for the NTFS version and I was able to retrieve all of the data. The price was well worth it IMO.

Terminator Salvation Game Launched, PC Version Recalled 75

On Tuesday, the video game tie-in to the Terminator Salvation movie was launched for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Most reviews pegged the game as solidly mediocre; IGN said, "the action is fairly tame throughout and the cutscenes are stunningly ordinary. And yet despite the poor presentation, there are some clever gameplay elements that make Terminator enjoyable. Too bad that joy only lasts a handful of hours before the credits roll." However, customers who had purchased the retail PC version ran into installation errors, leaving them unable to play the game. Now, publisher Evolved has issued a recall for that version of the game, saying, "a defect occurred during replication," and promising a replacement plan for people who had purchased it.

Using Conficker's Tricks To Root Out Infections 117

iago-vL writes "Despite having their domain blacklisted by Conficker, the folks at Nmap have released version 4.85BETA8, which promises better detection of the Conficker worm. How? By talking to it on its own peer-to-peer network! By sending encrypted messages to a suspect host, the tools will get Conficker.C and higher to reveal itself. This curious case of using Conficker's own tricks to find it is similar to the last method that we discussed. More information from the author is available, as well as a download for the new release (or, if you're a Conficker refugee, try a mirror instead)."
