Well, there might be people who think there are more important values in a society than enabling the customer to buy crap for some cents less. Over here in Germany we have sort of the same, or at least a similar law: It states, that all publishers have to to set a fixed price for their books and that all retailers have to sell the book at that price. The reason is that books are supposed to be a cultural good and this law wants to enable authors to write without any pressure from the "market".
Since I don't trust about 99% of humanity (and thus, the market) when it comes to intellectual or cultural values, I personally highly appreciate this law. Have a look at today's TV schedule and you know what I mean.
